From London to Tbilisi — and Now Paris: The Expanding Family of Banya No.1

Back in 2012, Banya No.1 opened its doors in Hoxton, London — introducing the city to something truly different. This wasn’t just another spa. This was the UK’s first authentic Russian banya, bringing centuries-old wellness rituals to life in a way that was vigorous, social, and intensely effective.

Over a decade later, what began as one pioneering location has blossomed into a growing international family. With each new opening, we’ve stayed true to our roots: offering an experience that challenges, transforms, and leaves you feeling reborn — no matter where in the world you join us.

In this blog, we’re sharing the story behind Banya No.1, introducing each of our locations, and celebrating the newest member of the family: Banya No.1 – Paris. You’ll also find links to explore local websites and follow each Banya No.1 branch on Instagram.

Our Story: Where It All Began

From London to Tbilisi — and Now Paris: The Expanding Family of Banya No.1

We launched in Hoxton with one mission: to bring the invigorating power of Russian banya rituals to the UK. Not just heat and steam, but an intense thermal cycle of hot, cold, rest, repeat — paired with the iconic Parenie Ritual, honest and effective spa treatments, and nourishing food and drinks.

Word spread fast. Soon we were welcoming A-list regulars like Kate Moss, Justin Bieber, and Emilia Clarke, alongside media features in The Times, Forbes, Condé Nast, and beyond. But at its heart, Banya No.1 has always been about the people who come to us seeking something real — ready to expand their comfort zones and discover a powerful, unforgettable experience.

Meet Our Growing Family

Each of our locations has its own distinct character and vibe, but all share the same core: authentic Russian banya experiences that leave you deeply relaxed, energised, and feeling alive.

Banya No.1 – Hoxton (Est. 2012)

From London to Tbilisi — and Now Paris: The Expanding Family of Banya No.1

Tucked between East and North London, Banya No.1 – Hoxton was our very first location, where Londoners were introduced to the invigorating world of Russian banya. Over the years, the site has grown to include the Private Spa Suite Taiga, offering a more secluded, personalised setting for those looking to go deeper into this time-honoured ritual.

The interiors echo the charm of historic Russian banyas, with a private steam room built from fragrant Kelo logs, cosy lounge cabins reminiscent of those in classic bathhouses like Sanduny in Moscow, samovar touches (a traditional Russian tea urn), nostalgic Soviet-era posters and banya-inspired art on the walls — all adding warmth, heritage, and authenticity to the experience.

Banya No.1 – Chiswick (Est. 2021)

From London to Tbilisi — and Now Paris: The Expanding Family of Banya No.1

Our Chiswick branch opened in 2021 in one of the capital’s most affluent neighbourhoods, offering the same authentic Russian Banya experience — but with a modern twist. It has built its own passionate following among the local community, further promoting the banya ritual and contrast therapy in West London.

The interiors reflect a clean, Scandi-inspired aesthetic with natural textures, Kelo wood details, and soft lighting — a fresh take on tradition, designed for contemporary urban wellness.

Banya No.1 – Tbilisi (Est. 2022)

From London to Tbilisi — and Now Paris: The Expanding Family of Banya No.1

Opened in 2022, our Georgian branch became the first international member of the Banya No.1 family. Nestled in the peaceful hilltop village of Kiketi, just a short drive from Tbilisi, the area offers hiking, horse riding, a local winery, and a rosarium — making it ideal for day trips, countryside getaways, or longer wellness escapes.

The spa blends traditional Russian banya rituals with the beauty of its natural surroundings. Built into the cliffside to preserve the landscape, the architecture tucks the complex into a dramatic ravine, allowing guests to reconnect with nature while enjoying a powerful, restorative experience.

The open-air terrace features a refreshing plunge pool and panoramic views of the valley. You can stretch out on a sunbed, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and enjoy the stillness between steam sessions.

Inside, both public and private banya areas offer a fully immersive wellness ritual, complemented by a dining space that overlooks a nearby waterfall — bringing even more serenity to the experience.

Latest Branch: Banya No.1 – Paris (Joined in 2025)

From London to Tbilisi — and Now Paris: The Expanding Family of Banya No.1

With London and Tbilisi thriving, we’ve expanded our family to France. Formerly known as Kupala Banya, this Parisian location joined the Banya No.1 group in 2025, bringing our signature rituals to a new audience while continuing its own local legacy.

Located in the 15th arrondissement, the space features two Private Spa Suites — Petit Banya (for up to 3 guests) and Grand Banya (up to 6) — designed for a personalised and immersive escape.

Inspired by nature, the interiors combine natural textures, warm lighting, raw wood, and gentle earthy tones to create a grounding, intimate atmosphere. The swinging beds, wooden scent, and tactile materials work together to enhance the feeling of stepping into a secluded retreat—right in the heart of Paris.
