Banya No.1 etiquette

Recommendations for your visit to Banya No.1

This is a short list of our most frequently asked questions

What is included in a typical banya session?

Use of all our facilities including an authentic steam room, bucket showers and plunge pool.
You can relax in your own booth in the fully licensed lounge bar where you can experience a variety of traditional food and drinks or simply unwind between visits to the steam room. A towel or cotton sheet is included. Additional accessories can be hired or purchased onsite. An extra towel is provided with any package or parenie.

Are any treatments included?

It depends on the package you have booked. Additional treatments may be booked in advance or during your session (subject to availability).

Can I make a private booking?

Private bookings are available 7 days a week from £140/hour.
Up to 10 people can be accommodated. Please call us to discuss your requirements.

What is the best way to experience a banya?

The main rule: Do not rush and DON’T OVERDO IT. You should take regular breaks from the steam room to rehydrate and cool down in the lounge. Simple principle: Spend 10-15min in the steam room, then relax for 20-30min in the lounge, drinking herbal tea, fermented kvass or even beer if you like.
Time in the steam room + DOUBLE time in rest & relaxation lounge.
Repeat this cycle as required complementing with treatments. You do not have to use cold plunge or bucket after every visit to steam room, but you should after Parenie treatment.
Why not try one of our packages including the most popular authentic treatments? Our therapists will expertly guide you through the whole banya experience!

What do I need to bring with me?

It is advisable to bring flip-flops. Disposable slippers or flip-flops can be purchased from Reception. Swimwear is required during mixed sessions; at other times, it’s entirely up to you. For ladies we would recommendwearing bikini (not swimsuits).

Is it a sociable experience?

This is completely your decision! You can relax on your own or share the experience with friends – we have comfortable booths and private areas that can accommodate 6–8 people.

What are the benefits of a banya?

There are numerous benefits! A banya provides an effective detox while relieving stress and fatigue. It also helps in post-exercise recovery, improving blood circulation and boosting the immune system. Many clients have said that our treatments have given them a feeling of baby-soft skin!
Nathaniel Rothschild said about his and Peter Mandelson’s visit to banya in Siberia: “It is the best way in the world to beat jet lag and everything else. It was incredibly enjoyable. Everyone woke up the next day feeling revitalised and excited about the day.”

Why are felt hats worn in the steam room?

When our therapists (banschiks) create the steam, it rises up to the ceiling and then gradually settles down towards the floor as it cools. The felt hat protects your head from overheating. It is important to take regular breaks from the steam room and rehydrate and cool down in our lounge.
