To enable you to obtain maximum benefit from your session in the steam room, we have compiled a list of dos and don’ts to ensure you have a relaxing and safe time.

Dos

Here is a range of recommendations that will enhance your visit:

Do dress appropriately
Before entering the steam room, we advise you to remove your glasses, contact lenses and jewellery, and to put on one of our felt hats. The hat will help you maintain a stable body temperature and prevent your head from being affected by the hot air and steam.

Do lie down inside the steam room
When you enter the steam room, we recommend that you lie down on a shelf and elevate your legs a little higher than your head as this will allow the steam to circulate around your body evenly. Of course, you are allowed to sit down, but it is important to remember that this will cause the upper half of your body to heat up quicker than the lower half, which can lead to overheating.

Do drink water
While in the steam room, your body will sweat, which is why you will lose a lot of water and salt. So, to maintain the correct balance, you need to drink lots of tea, water or our homemade kvass and mors. The best way to stay hydrated is to drink a little amount of water but often.

Do submerge your whole body under the ice-cold water
After your parenie treatment, you need to dive into the plunge pool so your whole body (including your head) becomes submerged. Ideally, your body should cool down at an even rate so it is important that your head does not overheat while your body temperature is returning to normal.

Do relax
Remember, the main purpose of your visit to Banya No.1 is to seek tranquillity and rest. We want to ensure that you can unwind and relax so that by the end of your session you will be free from any trace of negative emotions or physical fatigue.

Don’ts

Here are some tips on what not to do at Banya No.1:

Don’t stay inside the steam room for too long
Your first visit to the steam room should not exceed 5 minutes. Then, you should rest in the lounge area for about 15–20 minutes. After your break, you may visit the steam room again, and then continue alternating between the steam room and lounge. It is important to listen to your body, so if you ever feel uncomfortable, leave the steam room immediately.

Don’t drink too much alcohol
Remember, a visit to the steam room will cause your respiratory system to work much harder than it normally would. As a result, your blood pressure will rise and your blood vessels and heart will drive the blood around your body at an accelerated pace. Therefore, it is important that you avoid drinking too much alcohol as your body needs to maintain its stability.

Don’t make any noise
